Being emotionally aware and attuned with your healthy true self is the key to enhance healthy relationships with yourself and with your loved ones.

What is Emotion?

Emotion is a natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s circumstances, mood, or relationships with others. According to Robert Plutchik’s theory, there are eight basic emotions: fear, anger, sadness, joy, disgust, surprise, trust, and anticipation.

Utilize Attachment Theory

When a baby is born, he/she starts communicating to this world through emotions. For instances, when a baby smiles, it usually indicates the baby is feeling happy, safe, comfortable, secure, love, and cared for. If a baby cries, it often indicates emotional and or physical discomfort or distress, such as being hungry, scared, pain, sickness, or hurt. He/she is asking for help which requires a change of circumstances.

Healthy Caregiver, Healthy Baby: The emotional condition of the caregiver has direct effect on the quality of care to the baby’s physical and emotional needs. How responsive and positive the caregiver is to the baby’s needs makes an impactful difference to the baby’s emotional growth and development.

Trust is developed between baby and caregivers if they are responsive and attentive consistently to the baby’s physical and emotional needs.

Reality Check

  • Were you brought up from a safe, secure and loving environment, physically and emotionally?
  • Was your caregiver(s) able to provide loving and attentive care consistently, physically and emotionally to your needs?
  • In the growing up process, was your caregiver(s) able to demonstrate their healthy emotions consistently towards you?
  • What does safe, secure and loving relationship, physically and emotionally look like to you?
  • What does safe, secure, and loving relationship, physically and emotionally feel like to you?
  • What does safe, secure, and loving relationship, physically and emotionally sound like to you?
  • What does healthy attachment mean to you?
  • Are you aware that your childhood relationships with your family of origin has direct impact on your current relationships?
  • How secure you are overall in your day to day life in a 10 points scale, 1 as the least secure and 10 is the most secure?
  • Do you feel safe and secure in your relationship with others?
  • Are you able to provide a safe, consistent, and secure environment for others to relate to you?

The above questions provide a quick review of the correlation between your attachment from the past and how it affects your current relationships. Embracing healthy attachment, a trusting and secure bond, both physically and emotionally between the baby and the caregiver is crucial for successful relationships in the adult life When healthy attachment is generated organically, it provides a great sense of trust, security, love and confidence within an individual like a seed is implanted in the core of your system.
